It is always best to check on the specific requirements of your HSA or FSA plan to confirm whether a family member on your policy can use these funds.

Typically, if a family member has a Letter of Medical Necessity signed by a provider that recommends weight loss, or supplementation for a medical condition, they should be eligible to use HSA or FSA funds for products, or services purchased from either UNI KEY Health Systems, Inc, or First Lady of Nutrition, Inc.

Yes, previous purchases of eligible products or services can typically be submitted for reimbursement through HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) accounts, provided they meet the following criteria:

Eligible Expenses: The product or service must qualify as an HSA- or FSA-eligible expense according to IRS guidelines. Examples include medical supplies, doctor visits, prescriptions, or certain wellness-related items.

Purchase Date:

FSA: Expenses must have been incurred within the current plan year. FSA funds generally expire at the end of the year or within a short grace period, so expenses from previous years may not be eligible.

HSA: There is no “use it or lose it” rule with HSAs, so as long as the expense was incurred after the HSA account was established, it can be reimbursed at any time.

Receipts/Documentation: You need to provide proper documentation such as receipts, invoices, or Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements showing:

  • The date of the service or purchase.
  • The amount paid.
  • A description of the product or service to prove eligibility.

Qualified Provider or Merchant: Purchases must be made through providers or merchants that are recognized as valid for HSA/FSA reimbursements, such as medical providers, pharmacies, or approved retailers.

Steps to Submit for Reimbursement:

  1. Verify that the purchase qualifies as an eligible expense.
  2. Check your FSA or HSA plan rules (e.g., time limits or eligible categories).
  3. Gather supporting documents (receipts, EOBs).
  4. Submit the claim through your HSA/FSA account portal or administrator.

Tip: If you’re unsure whether a past expense qualifies, check with your HSA/FSA provider or consult their list of eligible expenses.
